Õ¬Äе¼º½'s Donald Wakefield Receives 2015 ANS Standards Service Award
Õ¬Äе¼º½ is pleased to announce that Mr. Donald Wakefield, Senior Consultant in Õ¬Äе¼º½'s Safety, Risk, and Compliance service line, has received the 2015 ANS Standards Service Award from the American Nuclear Society. Mr. Wakefield received this award for his service as chairman of the Low Power and Shutdown Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Working Group of the JCNRM from 2006 until 2014. He continues to serve as the Working Group Chairman. The Low Power and Shutdown PRA standard is now approved for trial use. Once the trial use period closes, the standard will be revised accordingly. The standard will then again be balloted with the intent of seeking ANSI approval as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
The award recognizes Mr. Wakefield's success in addressing a number of complex quantitative versus qualitative risk management issues and resolving over 1,000 technical comments. The result is a significant standards product that benefits the nuclear industry through consensus risk analysis methodologies.
Members of the JCNRM represent national laboratories, universities, vendors, utilities, regulators, consultants, architect-engineers, and industry groups such as the Nuclear Energy Institute, the Electric Power Research Institute, and representatives from the Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) and Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Owners' Groups. The JCNRM Consensus Committee is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of voluntary consensus standards that establish safety and risk criteria and methods for completion of probabilistic risk analysis (PRA) and risk assessments. These criteria and methods are applicable to design, development, construction, operation, decontamination, decommissioning, waste management, and environmental restoration for nuclear facilities.
