  • Attend Course 100 and Course 101
  • Pass the fundamentals examination for each course
  • Have a college degree and 2 years of experience, or a high school diploma and 5 years of experience

Recommendations from supervisor and manager/technical representative for your two most recent audits, or documentation from most recent PSM/RMP audit

Process Hazard Analysis Certifications

PHA Leader
  • Attend Course 110
  • Pass the fundamentals examination
  • Have a college degree and 2 years of experience, or a high school diploma and 5 years of experience

Recommendations from supervisor and manager/technical representative for two post-training PHAs (40 hours of leadership, minimum)

Advanced PHA Leader
  • Attain PHA Leader Certification
  • Attend one additional course - either Course 220 (Quantitative Analysis Techniques), Course 200 (Layer of Protection Analysis) or Course 240 (Facility Siting Hazards Analysis Techniques)
  • If more than 2 years have passed since attaining PHA Leader Certification, attend Course 111 (PHA Refresher Training)
  • Lead and document at least two additional PHAs (after attaining PHA Leader Certification) that comply with applicable regulatory requirements, reflect industry best practices, and/or meet a company’s documented PHA protocol

Demonstrate PHA leadership and reporting capabilities by submitting your two most recent PHA reports. Each report must include typical report sections (e.g., objectives, scope, approach, team, drawings used, recommendations), describe in detail how the PHA meets applicable regulatory/industry/company requirements, and contain the completed analysis worksheets consistent with the report text.
